Picasa: A free photo organizing program from Google. Download from here. Click the download link to the right.

GIMP: A free digital photo editing program. Download from www.gimp.org. Instructions for downloading: Click on the link entitled "GIMP for Windows" This will get you to a new page. Now you have to click "Automated Installer," which will bring you to another page. Now, on the menu to the left, select "Download." Now, download GTK Runtime Environment if you don't have it on your computer already, as it is required for GIMP to run. Once GTK Runtime Environment is downloaded and installed, you get to finally install the GIMP. Get back to the Page with the GTK and GIMP downloads on it, and this time, click the the link under HTTP, and download the GIMP. You will need to select a mirror when you are downloading both GTK and GIMP. Remember, you must unzip both folders before the applications will work by clicking the "Extract All Files" located on the left toolbar in Windows Explorer. Select the desired unzipping directory, and then install.

Firefox and Thunderbird: Both of these are good alternatives to Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Outlook Express, download from www.mozilla.org. Firefox offers tabbed browsing and a built in popup blocker, and Thunderbird offers an easy way to switch between accounts. Both programs have many different extensions (add-ons) and themes (skins).
