Lately, the ducks have been splashing a lot when we put their water in, causing their coop to become soaked and needing to be dried out every day.  In order to prevent this from becoming too much of a problem, I thought through the problem and decided to place a large aluminum tray underneath their water, and fill that with kitty litter, which would absorb most of the water.  In order to keep the ducks from getting to and eating the kitty litter, which would be bad for them, we got a piece of mosquito netting and placed that on the tray, tucking it in on both sides.  Then, as usual, we placed a one inch layer of cedar chips on top of that, and covered those with straw.

Top View:  Shows the location of the water in relation to the rest of the coop.  Note that the water is located in the center of the tray, to distribute the splashing
Side View:  Shows the tray from the side. Black-Tray, Grey-Kitty Litter, Light Grey-Mesh, Brown-Cedar Chips, Yellow-Straw.  The water, if it were shown in this diagram, would be placed above the mesh, with the cedar chips and straw meeting it on the sides
