I've always thought liquors were nice, but a little too expensive to buy and sometimes too sweet.  How about we just make a little ourselves.  Simple ingredients, fresh stuff from the garden, sugar, and the cheapest vodka you can find!

Well, it's easy for us.  We pick the strawberries from our back yard -- how can you go wrong! Here are the starting ingredients, again how can you go wrong -- what's not too like! You have too take it easy here.  Just cut the strawberries in halves and sprinkle with sugar in layers.  DO NOT mix them together to avoid breaking them up!
Within about a day the sugar will suck all that good juice out! You can see more and more juice, let them go a few days in the fridge. Oh, and NO, DON'T WASH the strawberries, you'll dilute the flavor!  Don't worry, the vodka you add will take care of any germs!
Give it a few weeks and the vodka will pick up even more of the color -- then just siphon and it keeps fine in a bottle, no refrigeration! Of course, you can do the same thing with wild blackberries! The blackberries were few and far between and found in the 'wild' -- we could only get enough for a mason jar.
Same idea, layer with sugar. Again, let the sugar pull the juice out and soften the fruit. Leave in the frig to prevent any chance of spoiling (although not likely with all that sugar!). Then, add the vodka and let it stay a few weeks.  Then siphon into a nice bottle.

This was VERY GOOD!  Had a wonderful berry flavor.

Done!  Sorry, we drank a little before taking the picture.  Okay, we drank a lot!
